#MAT6892

Maurianne Nohejl started out studying massage in order to better understand her own body and manage her fibromyalgia and physical injuries. She was determined to find a way to treat these debilitating conditions naturally, so she took a few classes at the Hawaiian Islands School of Massage, which focused on medical pathology and treating clients with a variety of conditions. Initially, she attended anatomy and physiology classes, but it didn’t take her long to enroll in massage school full-time. She studied lomilomi and become certified in Hawaiian massage, which connected her more deeply to her Hawaiian roots. Since then, Maurianne, who is known as Mo, has expanded her studies with pohaku (hot stone lomi), craniosacral therapy, lymphedema therapy and acupressure. In the last ten years, she has focused on honing her skills, adding to her toolbox with Active Release Technique (ART) and cupping.

When Mo began her massage journey, she was on medical leave from the Hawaii Department of Education because of the limitations of fibromyalgia. With her devotion to healing through massage therapy and far-infrared sauna, she regained control of her body and symptoms. When this happened, she understood why fibromyalgia chose to affect her life at that time, and she couldn’t wait to share what she had learned with others. When you meet Mo, ask her about her journey. She will happily tell you her story to help you understand your own.

Mo resigned from the Department of Education but decided to return when her friend’s autistic sons needed help. Her work with these boys, as both a teacher and a craniosacral practitioner, put them on their healing path. She realized how much she missed the students and their vibrancy and so decided to return to teaching. She juggles the two professions, as a licensed massage therapist and a teacher, with equal passion and enthusiasm.

Mo is a devoted massage therapist, well-versed in many techniques. She specializes in treating chronic headaches, respiratory problems and chronic and acute injuries, among other things, and has been known to say that she “loves whiplash”. During her free time, Mo can be found at the ocean somewhere, walking, swimming, or enjoying a cup of coffee at one of the many coffee shops in town, where she reads or does crossword puzzles…in ink!  Feel free to join her, she would love to hear your story.

TESTIMONIALS:

From afraid to a fan... Just like that!

I spent most of my life afraid to get a massage. After all, isn’t it kind of weird to take off your clothes and let a stranger rub you all over? At least, that’s how I felt until my body was literally shutting down. After the birth of my fourth child, the pressures of being a severely sleep-deprived, stay-at-home mom and pastor’s wife had me barely able to function. One day, after attempting to adjust me, my chiropractor suggested that I seriously needed trigger point massage. I came home really bummed out and told my husband. He has always believed in the healing arts and promptly made an appointment for me with his favorite massage therapist, Mo. With fear and trepidation, I set off to meet this ‘Mo’ person. She immediately put me at ease, and as I lay on her table with my head cradled in her hands, my whole body began to release its tension. The skill and intuition that Mo has in healing through massage can only be described as a gift. Sixteen years after my first experience with massage, not only is Mo the first person I run to when my body is out of sorts in any way, but she’s also become one of my very best and dearest friends. I cannot imagine life without Mo. She and her skills in many types of massage are truly a gift from God.

Thank you for helping my body get better!! Forgot to tell you last Tuesday that I had a fun time playing hard in the league game and did not suffer consequences the following day. I made personal records in points and three-pointers that night, so I really appreciate playing without injury!

“Best massage I have ever had! I am an avid runner, but my lifestyle (work and exercise routine) creates tightening of the muscles in my back and chest area, making it hard for me to breathe sometimes. Mo is the only massage therapist I have found who is able to relax those muscles, making it easier for me to breathe. Thank you so much, Mo!”

The body work that Mo does allows me to reduce the frequency and severity of my migraines in particular and headaches in general. Regular appointments minimize the need for migraine medications. When other issues arise, Mo works to alleviate pain in a prompt manner and to find remedies for both short term relief and long-term healing.

Mo said one magic word during our first session: Puzzle!
She loves to figure out a good puzzle, and I delivered a challenging one for her to solve. My lower back and neck area were in desperate need of TLC, and Mo went to work. In tight communication with my chiropractor, their teamwork has brought me much relief. I highly recommend Mo as she knows how to apply different massage techniques with the goal of making you feel better. She is funny and educated and exudes healing energy for your body and mind.

I frequently refer to Maurianne Nohejl as “Magic Fingers.” I discovered her for customers while working at a bed and breakfast and became a client of hers because they always came back singing her praises. I have been a client of hers for nearly ten years. She has resolved my low back tension and tight computer neck and shoulders, as well as my flexibility issues. I love that she incorporates different massage modalities in her treatments. I have utilized the services of other massage therapists in the past, and trust me, I would not trade Maurianne in for anything. She is awesome!

When I met Mo, I could not move my neck, and my shoulder and back were in constant pain. Even after my first massage session with Mo, I felt so much relief. Eventually, everything got better. It’s like I have a new neck! I am grateful for all of Mo’s help and look forward to every massage session. Mo is so knowledgeable that I feel safe and confident in her hands. Pain can really bring a person down. Mo’s skill and positivity has gotten me through some painful times. You see, I am an advanced senior citizen. With Mo’s help, I am able to keep working in my yard and care for my animals. I truly appreciate Mo and her help.

If someone you know and love is pregnant, give them the gift of a massage. Being pregnant is hard, emotionally and physically. Getting a massage can help relieve and relax both body and mind. Mo is the most excellent massage therapist. She has great instincts and always finds the spot on your body that needs attention.
