Restorative Yoga

Nan Dudley

Restorative yoga is a powerful and mindful approach to yoga that is beneficial for relieving physical, mental and emotional stress and allowing the nervous system to heal, something that can benefit us all. The practice uses props to support the body to hold poses for several minutes at a time. While still requiring a good amount of strength, this method also invites you to turn inward and allow deep relaxation to your muscles and your mind, paving the way for healing at all levels. In this class we do a short warm-up before moving into the restorative poses. Although it may seem challenging at first to enter into such stillness, the art of passive stretching and strengthening proves to be extremely satisfying in so many ways from slowing down our busy brains to deeply unwinding our tight and often overstressed bodies and using the breath to move the energy through and out of the body. This practice has value for people at all levels and requires no previous experience.
